Creating the Offside Trap

 

Purpose
To introduce a simple offside formation in the defense.

Procedure
Concentrate on the back four defenders and the goalkeeper working together.

The key to this system of play and making it effective is repetition.

With a younger team make sure that any players coming off the bench are conversant with this system.

Development
As a guide normally one of the two central defenders should be the (Boss) or (Sweeper) keeping the players working

together and moving the players forward when the ball is played forward and back when possession is lost.

This is often referred to as holding the line.
